Being a Sacred Teacher for the New Age
The Master's Touch contains the lectures and meditations that he taught during his Master's Touch courses in July 1996, in Espanola, New Mexico, and in April 1997 in Assisi, Italy. They are presented here as a resource for all people on a spiritual path looking to open new doors, to stretch or challenge themselves. In it Yogi Bhajan explains the importance of spiritual discipline in facing the challenges of life. And, most of all, he sets the blueprint of what it means to be a true and sacred spiritual teacher for this New Age, the Age of Aquarius.
In the West, the understanding of a Master, and the relationship between a Master and student, is generally not understood. It is limited to what is seen on television or in the movies which in no way accurately conveys the ancient, sacred, and in many cultures, essential relationship for spiritual growth.
A Master in the true sense of the term is not a philosopher or preacher. He or she is a Teacher of Teachers, a transmitter of the same mastery he or she has achieved. A Master has experienced and integrated into his or her consciousness that which gives clarity, depth and insight, so the teaching can have a profound effect.
Unlike other Eastern traditions, in the lineage of Kundalini Yoga the Golden Chain or connection to the Teacher is not established by initiation. Yogi Bhajan has explained that students of Kundalini Yoga must initiate themselves by adhering to the discipline and practice of the technology. Yet, as a Master of Kundalini Yoga, he always made himself available and accessible to students to guide them to achieve the level of commitment necessary for their growth.
True spirituality, true awareness, is not something that can be taught. It is grace that ultimately merges the consciousness of the student with that of the Teacher. It was this grace that was felt during the lectures from Yogi Bhajan, for 2 or 3 hours every day, during which he spoke about life, about yoga, and about teaching in such a direct and profoundly penetrating way that each person present was transformed. His words carried a special gift: they touched the psyche and soul of each and every one, bringing light, insight, and elevation of the spirit.
That was what Yogi Bhajan was all about. That is what The Master's Touch is all about. Careful study of the wisdom contained within this book will pay incalculable dividends in your future spiritual development.
